The Botanical Garden's Sky Island entrance will feature a tropical island above (approximately 14' above) with a plunging waterfall to the entrance below. Under the sky island visitors will stroll through a tropical rainforest as their first introduction to the Gardens.
Wellington Gardens Tropical Botanical Garden

A Rare Community Treasure - Entering through the Sky Island entrance shown above, visitors to the Gardens will pass through the tropical rainforest exhibit to a world of other natural wonders.
There are not many things that are a finer or more universally regarded amenity to a community than a botanical garden. Wellington Gardens will create 18 acres of wondrous tropical gardens that are integrated into our everyday living and enjoyment by combining the gardens with excellent shopping, dining, entertainment, hotel and residences. The gardens won't be a place apart that we travel to visit. They'll be in the heart of our community and become an every day part of what defines Wellington. In Wellington's case, the gardens will serve as the constant reminder of what the community already stands for - quality natural surroundings combined with generous open space - something that most other South Florida communities have lost the opportunity to provide to their residents. The Gardens and its attractions will only serve to make Wellington an even more special place.

The Coconut Grove
Whoever said that Wellington has no beach? There will be plenty of water, plenty of sandy beach and plenty of coconut palms from which to string our hammocks. Add in a little westerly breeze and Playa del Carmen has nothing on us!
Unlike traditional botanical gardens that were often meant more as a way for people to walk around and look at trees and plants (usually without touching), Wellington Gardens will fully invite human use, interaction and enjoyment.
What better to do on a quiet Sunday afternoon than to have a coffee and pastry then take a nice stroll through the shady Gardens with a restful stop in the Coconut Grove?
There will be plenty of things to do and see in Wellington Gardens and all the enjoyment is free of charge.

The Bamboo Tunnel
Bamboo is one of the most fascinating plants on the planet and seeing it this way, in such thick, tall stands is about as spectacular as it gets. This bamboo tunnel in Japan attracts over a 100,000 visitors per year.
Our plan is for Wellington Gardens to have its own bamboo tunnel that, with some dramatic lighting at night, will be a powerful daytime or night time experience.
Wellington just became a whole lot more interesting place to visit.

The Gardens at Night
The Gardens at night will be a combination of areas meant for active use and areas that are devoted to quiet, serene, intimate spaces like this walking bridge with lit fountain.
Our plan is for the gardens to show us a different face at night than they do in the daylight. That's part of nature's beauty. We get a particular kind of experience by day and, by night, nature transforms both the mood and the experience to something that's completely different.
The people who live on the property or nearby will have the benefit of calling this their "backyard." It's the kind of backyard that they can enjoy day by day and season by season.

Waterways that Beautify - Every real estate development anywhere in South Florida must deal with the issue of water retention as part of the development plan. In most places, that results in a canal or retention pond put off somewhere to the back or sides of the development. But, it doesn't have to be that way. Water retention can be done in the form of beautiful natural looking finger lakes surrounded by water side vegetation. In a typical real estate development, water retention represents a problem. In the case of a botanical garden, though, it represents an opportunity - the opportunity to add beauty and interest to the surroundings.
At every turn and in every detail, Wellington Gardens will work to give Wellington its best, and in the process, make Wellington the best it can be.

Interact and Learn
Some botanical gardens are devoted to specimen planting only. The basic theme is walk through the garden, look at the specimen trees and plants, but don't touch. In contrast, the botanical garden at Wellington Gardens will have its specimen trees and plantings, but in addition, it will provide numerous opportunities for people to interact and learn about plants and how they can bring a sense of satisfaction and natural beauty to our own homes. Above are 3 examples of ongoing learning projects that will be part of the Wellington Gardens experience. People will be given the opportunity to learn, hands on, how to build a living green wall along their home or fence structure, how to carry out raised bed gardening in limited space, or how to grow an edible garden that will add a fresh taste and aroma to their home cooking.

Weaving Art and Culture into Our Every Day Lives - Botanical gardens are places where art and culture combine with nature. From seating, to statuaries to wall art or creative use of flowing water, Wellington Gardens will complement the surrounding plant life with objects and creations that add to the gardens' experience.
The botanical garden will be a place to learn and be inspired. We don't believe it's mere coincidence that cities such as Sarasota and Coral Gables (with their own botanical gardens) are regarded as among the most beautiful in South Florida. You see this same dynamic repeated in place after place. Wellington Gardens will be a place to inspire and encourage these same elements of art, culture and beauty within our own community.

A Pleasant Surprise at Every Turn - The botanical garden at Wellington Gardens will contain elements of surprise and interactivity. Tossing coins in a wishing well, walking under a waterfall, or having a photo opportunity with a painted horse are the kinds of activities along the way that will keep the kids busy and better entertained on a trek through the gardens. It will also make it easier for parents to keep the children respectful of the trees and plants while, at the same time, giving them things to do that are not "hands off." When parents can stress less, families can enjoy more.
